The library is seekinyg approval to place the 1 mill levy onthe ballot, sayinb in a news release that it facesz a $10 million shortfall in 2010. “We are now in survivap mode,” said Elizabeth LaMacchia, boarde president, in the release. “Without the additionalk funds a levywould provide, we will be forcedd to severely reduce our services, including closur of 15-20 branches.” Funding from the state of Ohio has fallenj more than 20 percent since the library said, adding that since then it has reduced hourss by 10 percent, cut staffing by 18.5 percent and postponed capitak spending.
The library currently doesn’t receiver any funding from the city or Hamilton If approved bya county’x tax levy committee, the levy will be on the ballor for the Nov. 3 general election. The Public Librart of Cincinnati and Hamilton based downtown, has 40 locations in the city and county and a collection of more than 9.5 milliom items.
